The G7 Parliaments convened in Verona with President Mattarella. Fontana: Joining forces for peace
The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, attended the opening of the Meeting of the G7
Parliaments meeting in Verona, chaired by Lorenzo Fontana, the President of the Chamber of Deputies.
‘We cannot resign ourselves to living in a world in which war, conflicts and inequalities are violating human
dignity and the identity of peoples: joining forces to achieve peace and mutual respect is a paramount
objective,’ underlined Mr Fontana in his address.
The thematic sessions scheduled for Friday, 6 September in Verona, Palazzo del Podestà, , focused on:
‘Security and development: new geopolitical balances and access to strategic resources’, “The G7 for Africa
and the Mediterranean: common challenges to ensure stability and growth”, “Artificial intelligence, cyber-
security and the defence of national interests: the role of Parliaments in the digital transition”. President
Fontana wound up the meeting with his concluding speech, the final Declaration and the handover of the
G7 Bureau.
